Natural Roman Terme
The Terme Libere di Fordongianus are small, open-air thermal pools that are free to use and generally accessible year-round, set along the Tirso River in the village of Fordongianus (Oristano, Sardinia). In Roman times, when the town was known as Forum Trajani, these waters were called Aquae Ypsytanae. The system historically included two springs—traditionally known as the “fegato” and the “bagno”: the Caddas spring, on the left bank of the Tirso, and the Banzos spring. Caddas is the main source, with a flow of about 43 liters per second and a temperature around 54°C, while Banzos has a much smaller flow (about 0.5 liters per second) and a temperature of roughly 44°C. The springs are also accompanied by gas emissions rich in nitrogen, adding to the site’s distinctive natural character.
